Bethesda, MD (December 14, 2007)
Honesty Online, a leader in the growing field of identity verification for online markets, named Laurence Cynkin, a 23-year software development veteran, as its Chief Technology Officer.
Mr. Cynkin joins Honest Online after serving as director of engineering for Revolution Health Group, a consumer-oriented website for health information and services created by AOL founder Steve Case.
While at Revolution, Mr. Cynkin developed and led the technology team that took the company from its original idea to a successful launch of a popular consumer website, visited by millions of unique users monthly.
“Larry is a real veteran of all stages of a successful start-up. He knows how to build the infrastructure that make the difference in turning a great idea into a booming technology business,” said Honesty Online CEO, Mark Ezra. Honesty Online is a leader in identity verification serving online markets such as Internet dating, social networking, online recruitment and ecommerce. The company was founded by a group of experienced entrepreneurs who saw the obstacles to interacting and transacting online – users’ ability to lie, consumers’ lack of trust, fraud concerns – and found a means to overcome them. The company, named one of three “Technology Pace Setters” at the Second Annual New New Internet: Web 2.0 for Business conference, has already signed agreements with a number of important dating and social networking sites to provide identification verification services, including Mate1.com. “Honesty Online has created an easy and cost-effective platform for consumers and businesses looking to navigate one of the biggest problems of the Internet world: Is the person you are dealing with actually who they say they are?” said Mr. Cynkin. “It is clear that affordable identity verification is one of the next big things in online personal and business commerce, and I look forward to working with the Honesty Online team to expand their platform and ensure their continued role as the go-to player in the field.”
Prior to working at Revolution, Mr. Cynkin served as vice president of engineering at Wondir, a Bethesda-based start-up where he developed a live question-and-answer website combining social-networking and search. The company was sold to Revolution.
Mr. Cynkin also helped launch the DC office for Asynchrony Solutions, an IT consulting firm and served as VP for Technology for Demand ID Systems, a start-up which built a web-based service to aggregate localized information about demand for live music. Mr. Cynkin worked for a decade at American Online, rising to senior technical manager directing strategic AOL projects such as AOL Keywords.
Mr. Cynkin received his Sc.B. from Brown University.
